Swanage, set in a bay at the foot of Ballard Down, is surrounded by fine sandy beaches stretching for 3 miles from South Haven Point to the chalk cliffs of Handfast Point and Old Harry Rocks at Studland. The beach at Swanage has won the European Blue Flag award on numerous occasions. Durlston Country Park is a nature reserve and covers over 260 acres of land that is home to many different species of animals, birds and reptiles. The main attractions within the park are the visitor’s centre, the stone globe and Durlston Castle. The area is popular with bird watchers and people come to watch the dolphins.Nearby villages - Studland on the edge of Studland Heath has one of the finest sandy beaches in England. It is sheltered by the chalk headland and Old Harry Rocks separating it from Swanage Bay. Langton Matravers – a village on the edge of the stone quarries built mainly from Purbeck Stone. Worth Matravers - a pretty village with walks down the valley to the coast at Winspit.
